​Chinese EV manufacturer NIO has confirmed plans to unveil its newest sub-brand, codenamed "Firefly," at the upcoming NIO Day on December 21, 2024. This new line will focus on ultra-affordable electric vehicles, positioning NIO as a competitor in the entry-level EV market both in China and Europe.

Firefly follows the recent launch of NIO’s second sub-brand, "Onvo," which debuted in mid-2024 with the L60 SUV. The L60 was designed to appeal to budget-conscious EV buyers and has positioned Onvo as a competitive alternative to models like the Tesla Model Y. While only camouflaged images of Firefly prototypes have been shared so far, NIO Day will reveal the brand’s flagship model and officially launch its identity, marking a new era of affordable EVs for NIO in the market.
