The UK government has announced ambitious plans to allow flying taxis to take off by 2026 and become a regular sight in our skies two years later.
Innovations in a new transport vehicle, known as an eVTOL (electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft), have made the idea of flying taxis a reality, with the Future of Flight action plan predicting that the first pilotless flying taxis will take off in 2030.
Typically carrying up to five people, eVTOLs are initially expected to become an exclusive mode of transport, replacing expensive journeys currently done by helicopters. However, infrastructure and public perception are two factors currently delaying the introduction of flying taxis, as ‘mini airports’ would need to be created and safety is a common concern for such technologies.
Contechs currently works with several automotive OEMs to develop autonomous technologies and design a more sustainable future of transportation.
