Position Title: Exterior Lighting - Function Engineer
Duration: Contract
Location: Crewe, Cheshire
Main Goals and Objectives:
- The Function Engineer is responsible for the development and delivery of a customer function end-to-end across all required elements-hardware, software, and communication interfaces.
- This role ensures that the function is correctly described, specified, tested, and integrated into the vehicle system.
Main Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain the Function Description and Function Requirements Specification, ensuring alignment with the Lead Developer and Component Owner.
- Create and manage the Function Delivery Plan, including verification and validation activities.
- Test the function across all relevant elements:
- Control units / compute platforms
- Software blocks containing function fragments
- Inter-element communication
- Input and output devices
- Conduct systematic interface testing before full integration.
- Report issues to the Function Owner and Component Owner, and support resolution planning.
- Collaborate with the EE Infrastructure Architect to define signal cascade diagrams (Wirkkette), electronics functional system block diagrams and boundary diagrams.
- Support mapping of functions to components and regulatory requirements.
- Make a release recommendation based on the Fulfilment of Function Requirements Specification and evidenced with completion of verification and validation activities.

Key Competencies & Qualifications
Skills & Experience:
- Experience with ECU software and hardware integration.
- Ability to communicate at various levels across the company in different forums
- German language skills would be advantageous.
Practical & Technical Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of vehicle systems and function-based development.
- Familiarity with boundary diagrams, signal cascade diagrams, and function maturity levels.
- Ability to work cross-functionally and manage technical dependencies.
- Proficiency in requirements management and validation planning.
Qualifications:
- Engineering Degree or equivalent
- Associate membership of a relevant professional intuition preferable
