Position Title: Exterior Lighting - Function Engineer

Duration: Contract

Location: Crewe, Cheshire

Main Goals and Objectives:

The Function Engineer is responsible for the development and delivery of a customer function end-to-end across all required elements-hardware, software, and communication interfaces.
This role ensures that the function is correctly described, specified, tested, and integrated into the vehicle system.

Main Responsibilities:

Develop and maintain the Function Description and Function Requirements Specification, ensuring alignment with the Lead Developer and Component Owner.
Create and manage the Function Delivery Plan, including verification and validation activities.
Test the function across all relevant elements:
Control units / compute platforms
Software blocks containing function fragments
Inter-element communication
Input and output devices
Conduct systematic interface testing before full integration.
Report issues to the Function Owner and Component Owner, and support resolution planning.
Collaborate with the EE Infrastructure Architect to define signal cascade diagrams (Wirkkette), electronics functional system block diagrams and boundary diagrams.
Support mapping of functions to components and regulatory requirements.
Make a release recommendation based on the Fulfilment of Function Requirements Specification and evidenced with completion of verification and validation activities.

Key Competencies & Qualifications

Skills & Experience:

Practical & Technical Knowledge:

Strong understanding of vehicle systems and function-based development.
Familiarity with boundary diagrams, signal cascade diagrams, and function maturity levels.
Ability to work cross-functionally and manage technical dependencies.
Proficiency in requirements management and validation planning.
