Tata has announced that it will build its first gigafactory, outside of India, in the UK with an investment of £4 billion pounds ($5.2 billion), creating up to 4,000 jobs and producing an initial output of 40 gigawatt hours. Production at the new facility is due to start in 2026.
The new gigafactory in Bridgwater will supply JLR’s future battery electric models - including Range Rover, Defender, Discovery and Jaguar, with the potential to also supply other car manufacturers. This decision will help secure the British car industry and build a thriving EV industrial ecosystem in the UK.
Contechs is currently supporting JLR and other OEMs with the development of next generation vehicles and EV platform technology.
